Overview

The Science of Micronutrient Fortification

Your flour mill earns the FSSAI +F logo, your oil refinery qualifies for government and WFP procurement, and the communities your products reach see measurable reductions in micronutrient deficiency — without any change to taste, texture, or existing diet. NFHS-5 data shows 67% of Indian children aged 6–59 months are anaemic; premix-fortified staples are the most cost-effective public health intervention to change that number. NutraX Biotech manufactures the premixes that go into the staple foods consumed by billions — ensuring iron, folic acid, vitamins A, B12, D, and zinc reach populations through the food they already eat every day.

India's national programmes — POSHAN 2.0, PM Poshan (the midday meal scheme), and the Eat Right India fortification mandate — all require staples fortified to FSSAI standards and carrying the +F logo, which signals compliance with the FSS (Fortification of Foods) Regulations 2018. Our premixes are formulated to meet every level of this regulatory framework.

We work with government agencies, WFP-tier humanitarian organisations, major FMCG brands, and mid-market millers across 30+ countries. Every formulation is built to specification, validated through accelerated shelf-life studies, and shipped with NABL-accredited third-party Certificates of Analysis.

WHO 2016 Guideline

No dedicated FSSAI standard. Formulated to the WHO 2016 maize flour fortification guideline (iron, folic acid, zinc, vitamin A, B-complex) and the specific WFP / USAID programme requirement.

Levels reflect the minimum–maximum micronutrient addition ranges set out in the FSSAI FSS (Fortification of Foods) Regulations 2018; salt follows FSSAI and BIS IS 16232:2014, and maize the WHO 2016 maize flour fortification guideline. Final premix dosage is calculated per processing overrun and target end-product level. Figures are indicative — request our specification sheet for the controlling document.

Technical

Manufacturing Capabilities for Compliant Premix Production

Every premix we produce goes through a rigorous formulation and quality process — from ingredient selection and particle size validation, through to stability testing and documentation preparation.

View our R&D and Quality Assurance

Particle size control

D50 and D90 specifications matched to each vehicle's blending requirements, preventing segregation and ensuring homogeneous distribution throughout the end product.

Microencapsulation technology

Lipid and starch-based encapsulation protects iron and vitamins from oxidation, moisture, and heat — extending shelf life and eliminating sensory off-notes.

Overrun & retention calculations

Formulations account for processing losses specific to each vehicle — milling, extrusion, pasteurisation, and storage — so end-product nutrient levels stay within specification.

Full batch traceability

Every lot ships with a NABL-accredited third-party CoA, batch manufacturing records, shelf-life test data, and audit-ready documentation packs.

Bioavailability-optimised mineral forms

Ferrous fumarate, ferrous bisglycinate, and ferric pyrophosphate — selected per programme requirement and vehicle chemistry to maximise absorbed iron.

Custom formulation development

Bespoke premix development for new fortification mandates, novel food vehicles, or unique programme specifications. Pilot batch to commercial scale in 8–12 weeks.
